The Teflon liner is bonded to the inner race surface, allowing for sliding motion between the spherical ball and the Teflon liner surface.

It also exhibits relatively good performance under vibration loads. Thus, when the metal type experiences excessive friction or is prone to seizure and fatigue failure, or when fretting at the sliding surface becomes problematic, replacing it with the Teflon type is an effective solution.
